The Bumhampton Chronicles: Chapter 2 (Part 4)

Through thick fringe I covertly watched as m’lord rose and walked to a tall wardrobe. The doors were swung open and he pulled a tray outwards. I saw hundreds if not thousands of vertical folders in varying thicknesses. “Ruby, luscious Ruby,” m’lord muttered softly and placed my fate into a vacant slot. “Please m’lord,” I beseeched, “I’ll do whatever you say, but don’t sell me to a brothel!” M’lord spun around. “What on earth?” His mouth gaped. “I heard Mrs. Cleanknockers sir!” I could not prevent the tears. “Ruby! Cease your caterwauling at once! This is not a Penny Dreadful!”

Poor Ruby. I think she needs a spank soon just to steady her. Hopefully someone will feel the need to take her in hand in some way as the poor girl is floundering. The 100 word limit is not making things easy on her.

Never fear missy, within several hundred words Ruby will be cuddled and pampered and all her fears eased by m’lord. After all, spanking never solved anything. LOL Who am I kidding? Orifices need to be plundered and bottoms whacked! Tally ho!

On the contrary. Spanking is the fix for everything and I am sure m’lord is well aware of that.

Well maybe m’lord is simply a power mad egomaniac who only wants to have his evil way with poor, helpless, innocent Ruby! *wrings hands in despair* Woe is me! I am an orphan! Have mercy sir.

I am sure that is probably the case. There is just always something in the eyes and in the voice that will tell a different tale.

Poor Ruby! She really does open her mouth before fully engaging her brain, doesn’t she?! Although I’d probably be pretty freaked if it sounded like I was going to be handed over to some strange man. Sorry, let me qualify that…to some man I didn’t know! 😉

Oh my, the soft voice! Well, that could mean anything, couldn’t it…?!

Like I explained to Missy, writing these in 100-word segments leads to some interesting compaction. These are rough first draft outlines. Ruby has fire and I plan on stoking that flame.

Lucky Ruby! (You knew I wouldn’t resist that…it was a comment going begging!) 😉

Sometimes it’s all about getting the story down. Going back to rewrite, then, becomes a really fun experience.

If it works for you, then use it. When you’re creating, it’s all about finding a way that works best. When planning, some people use lists; I can’t, I have to mind map and draw circles around things! Some don’t plan at all.

When writing, you utilise your gut instinct and find ways of doing it. I know someone who can write thousand and thousands of words a day if their mood and their interest in the subject is right, but I would struggle to do so. I know people who write linearly (which is what you’re doing here), and I struggle with tremendously. I wish I could get better at it, and I’m trying. I almost wrote my last novella linearly. Almost. But, I’ve said previously, I invariably write the end first. Lots of writers have no idea at all what the end is going to be until they get there. I work oppositely to that, just about always.

Everyone works differently. There is no right or wrong in the way we tackle it. Embrace whatever works and let it work for you!
